Jeannie Lee Lake is a journalist and community activist running in Indiana’s 6th district. Lake is the editor of The Good News and chairwoman of Feed My Sheep. Her organization feeds 2,000 citizens during the holiday season and supplies families with groceries and hygiene products. The Good News, her publication, highlights religious leaders in the area. Lake has said that religion is incredibly important to her and her family, growing up in Indiana. She was raised as one of 14 kids, 8 of whom went on to become ministers.

She is running against Greg Pence, Vice President Mike Pence’s older brother. It is also the seat that VP Pence once held, prior to becoming Governor of Indiana. Both Pence’s are also known to be very religious, devout Christians. However, as Lake has called out on the campaign trail, their actions don’t to match their Christian values.

In 2018, Lake won the democratic nomination in the 6th district as well. She beat out five white men for the nomination, becoming the first black woman on the ballot in her district.  Her campaign has focused on Indiana’s farmers and her own values and leadership. She plans to work to fix our education system and pay teachers fairly. She also will defend women’s reproductive rights and guarantee health care for all who need it.
