Where the Candidates Stand: Ending Gun Violence
Donald Trump
After both the Parkland and Las Vegas mass shootings President Trump did seem to agree that legislation was needed to address increasing gun violence in the country. However, nothing has been proposed and there is no plan for action on this issue in any second term agenda.
Joe Biden
Biden supports the ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. He plans to institute a program to buy back the assault weapons and high-capacity magazines already in our communities. He supports implementing federal background checks for all gun sales and to close all loopholes in the background check system, like the “boyfriend loophole.”
He wants to end the online sale of firearms and ammunition and to create an effective program to ensure individuals who become prohibited from possessing firearms to relinquish their weapons. He will also enact legislation to give states and local governments grants to require individuals to obtain a license prior to purchasing a gun.
