Forgiveness: A Debate Reality Check Moment

Last night’s Democratic Debate in Los Angeles, gave seven of the remaining candidates a chance to show America why they should be our next President.

Klobuchar came out punching, Buttigieg took some hits, Biden saw NO incoming, Bernie was Bernie, Warren took several swings at Pete, Steyer made no real waves, Yang was refreshing but even he seemed to question how he made the stage over others (Cory Booker in particular).

The candidates covered President Trump’s Impeachment, the Economy, Race, Foreign Policy, Immigration, Climate Change, Health Care, balancing the Federal Courts and Trade.

But, our favorite moment of the night revealed something important that most probably missed, but we think is worthy of a little ‘girltalk’ attention...

It was the final question of the night, and it gave each candidate a choice to either 1) ask for forgiveness from someone on the stage, or 2) give a gift to one of their fellow candidates.

Most dodged the request and made a more general appeal to voters, but Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar seized the moment to show their humanity and reveal a little something about the female experience in a man’s world.

Both women candidates asked forgiveness from their fellow running mates. They explained that their FIGHT was rooted in a desire to make things better - and the knowledge that if given the chance THEY could.

Warren attributed the thousands of stories of hardship she’d heard along the trail as being the fuel that pushed her forward and the reason she is unwilling to settle for anything less than real, uncompromising change.

Klobuchar was equally compelling, making the case that she wanted to be President and knew that she was the best person for this job, citing decades of experience and a long record of working across the aisle, appealing to rural America, and getting things DONE, even in the face of Washington bureaucracy and partisan divide.

This moment was not only a testament to the grit and overwhelming competence of these two women, it was also a reality check for all of us.

These women have experience, a vision for the future and a track record of success, but regardless of how many boxes they check… they have to be tougher and FIGHT harder than their male counterparts just to be heard.

We say punch away ladies, no need for forgiveness and thank YOU for being in the ring.
